Not Performance Art. Parts 1 & 2 is a selective documentary of performers and performances which was shot in the East Village of New York City from 1987 to 1996. Parts 1 & 2 include performance excerpts and interviews with Deb Margolin, Lisa Kotin, The Alien Comic (Tom Murrin), Jim Turner and Lisa Lerner. Also Included are interviews with club directors Mark Russell (P.S. 122), Meryl Vladimir and Howard Theis (The Club at LaMama), and Andy Kollmorgen, Dan Cohen and Bill Callihan from Gusto House ( Dan and Bill also perform as "Felicity and Lee"). Also included is an interview with Ilaan Egeland from Dixon Place and a brief clip of Ellie covan, the founder of Dixon Place. Finally, there are some excerpts for the The Blue Man Group ( at Franklin Furnace). This hour-long overview traces the beginnings of the art form, both as practiced in the East Village and as conceived in the minds and hearts of the performers. |
